The past week has brought the most lovely, mild weather. It seems as though the danger of frost may have left us. The gusty winter winds have given way to refreshing breezes just cool enough to prevent the day from becoming too hot. It’s stunning; it reminds me of California but with Arizona sunsets.
It is time to get the garden going. I’m looking forward to growing our food; I’m looking forward to learning about our new climate. I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow sustainably, to try to improve the overall health of the soil, and also to know the history of at least some of the food I’m eating.
I am also keen on gardening as it is a small step toward living less on the corporate grid. It’s part of my dream: to live simply and healthfully, minding my business and enjoying this chance to be alive and breathing. Apparently, I’m not alone in having that dream.
The lyrics to this Jenny O. song have always struck a chord with me. I imagine myself as the character in the song. I might trade the radio for streaming and the children for my dog, but other then that it’s my dream super me.
Automechanic by Jenny O.
I had a similar dream
My dream was real though
I left my body in the bed.
I took my clutch and pipe
Climbed out the window
And I was something else instead.
Automechanic, I never worry
I have a garden and a radio.
Made all my own tools
Minding my business
Trade you a tune for some gasoline.
Out in the country I met a good man
Found my body in the bed.
We traveled far and wide
In some of my favorite rides
Working on engines and making them run again.
Now I'm a farmer
Praying for rain
But we have the children and the radio.
Made all my own tools
Minding my business
Trade you a tune for some gasoline.
Automechanic, I never worry
I have a garden and the radio
Made all my own tools
Yeah, I can machine
Trade you a tune for some gasoline.
Great song! (love the car) Enjoy the weather and gardening!
