Love is a lot of things. It’s bitter; it’s sweet. It’s here, then it’s gone. It is as old as humankind. Perhaps older if you believe that animals are also capable of love, which is merely a fancy way we describe a reaction to pheromones. No matter how you feel about it, someone has felt it before. They were caught up in the feels way back, as noted in this lovely collection of poetry: The Sweetness of Honey and the Sting of Bees, A Book of Love From the Ancient Mediterranean.
Since Valentine’s Day can spark very different reactions from different people, this month there are quite a few poems or quotes, each offering a different take on that crazy little thing called love.
It is such a pretty collection that I have included the poems as they appear in the book rather than simply including copy. I hope you enjoy them, and I wish you the happiest Valentine’s Day (regardless of your relationship status at the moment). May we all celebrate that wonderful gift that has fascinated us throughout time.
Thanks for this lovely collection. You inspired my partner to write me a sweet poem!
