We’ve begun to feel as though our new desert house has become a home. We’ve spent enough time here to familiarize ourselves with the house sounds. We have been unable to detect any ghosts or hauntings thus far. The vibe is comfortable and chill. It’s starting to feel like our place.
As time crawls by, we have begun to adjust to our new routines as well, our new normal. We have begun exploring the area and the dog walks in the wash behind the house are a dream.
This is the most wonderful time in a new place. Everything is still fresh and exciting at the same time that it is becoming familiar. It is as though there is a new member of the family. We are adapting well to one another.
This is when the fun finishing touches need to be decided; the touches that can take a while, like the artwork. We are also choosing the plants that will share the home with us. To me, plants complete a home. They always make a home feel cleaner, more alive, more natural. At least for us they do.
Another perk that has been thrilling me is the land we now steward. There will be much to share as I attempt to put this land to use. A wildflower meadow, a butterfly and hummingbird garden, a few beds and containers for vegetables, an indoor herb oasis and plenty of native or low water use plants in the minimal landscaping have gotten me very excited about spring’s approach.
All of this is to say that I’ve fallen into a nesting phase. I could spend every waking moment here. The house, and importantly, my writing area, are feeling comfy and cozy. The yard seems eager for my attention. Things seem to be lining up for some great writing sessions.
Is anyone else planning a garden this year? Is there a houseplant you recommend? If you’re planning to grow something, please share it here.
How fantastic! Yay! had to laugh at the house sounds... Now I understand why you asked me what I might plant at the Sicily house! hmmm.... what you share here might explain why I want to remove some (ok, most) of what is already planted there. I don't want to harm the plants, I just don't resonate with them, doesn't feel like they're the right energy. For example, all the cacti. It's been explained that these were planted along the road to deter folks from entering the property. Kinda like a fence w/ barb wire. yeah, that's not the energy I want. What I would really love to do is plant a hedge of Laurel on two sides! Laurel is a powerful protection herb, good energy, and also smells fantastic. Alas, it will be some time before we can focus on the land. Meanwhile, I'm glad to hear you are settling in and nesting!
